Do I have to use the repairer that my insurance company recommends ?
NO, insurance companies train their claim handlers. "Someone who reads from an auto queue"& thinks their power & authority far exceeds that of the chief of police. To make it as difficult as possible for the consumer to use a repairer of their choice. Unfortunately up to 80% of vehicle owners are not aware of the rules & regulations. They are more often than not pursuaded or bullied in to following the instructions of the handlers who are also NOT aware of the rules & regulations, "you have to take your car here" or "we'll arrange to have your car collected". Consequently taking any authority out of the consumers hands.

Any accident no matter how small can be a traumatic experience & people are often still shaken from the event when they contact their insurer. The insurer is more than aware of this situation & they are very keen to sort things out as cheaply as possible. Remember they like others are in the business of making & saving money. You will by hard pushed to find a poor insurance company. That fact that your pride & joy has been damaged sometimes severely is of NO consequence to them what so ever. So please keep in mind it is to your own advantage that you get the best result from an unfortunate unwanted situation.
It is important for you to remember that you have purchased a service & like anything you buy, value for your money is what we all expect.They are your servant they are at your service & it should not be confused with the opposite way round as it often is. Think about it, take your time before making a snap decision you will likely later regret. Some consumers go for years paying premiums automatically renewing every 12 months. Often rising every year then when an incident happens become overwhelmed with a feeling of guilt when they have to make a claim ? We've even had customers who prefer to pay for repairs themselves because they don't want to bother their insurance company? Or they are worried sick their premium will sky rocket. "So what" Renew with another insurer, they are all greedy for your business. ok it's accepted across the board that some insurers quote high or in some cases are not prepared to quote at all on some high end exotic models. Though this is only because they are worried senseless that you may have bump & they might have to pay for it. Use a comparison site, there is normally one or two that can
lessen the impact on your bank balance.
